Greece vs Turkey
The fact that this exists, that 300+ people like it, and that assholes yell at me about Colonialism, makes me want to cry, yell and rip my hair out. Translation: “The Aegean, Cyprus, Macedonia, all belong to Mother Turkey.”

- Turkey flirts with Islam but it has strong secular foundations and it has a strong army; Greece is nominally secular but it has a very strong church
- Turkey is strongly and decidedly capitalist; Greece can’t help flirting with communism
- Europe <3 Greece though it can’t stand its laziness and some claim that Western civilization was founded on Plato’s principles; meanwhile, Europe hates Turkey (and the late Ottoman empire) and constantly fought it and underestimated it (Gallipoli)

More recently, the International Association of Genocide Scholars passed a resolution in 2007 affirming that the Ottoman campaign against Christian minorities of the Empire, including the Greeks, was genocide. Some other organisations have also passed resolutions recognising the campaign as a genocide, as have the parliaments of Greece, Cyprus and Sweden.
Cyprus illegitimately and no one acknowledges “the Republic” there.

All my Greek friends, family, and basically everyone in the lower class, work two jobs while going to school. It’s standard and all the bullshit you hear is a straight up lie. So the country’s bankrupt, despite an economy that’s been growing like crazy for decades. Yet I’ve heard that vacations are sacrosanct, there’s huge tax evasion, incompetent+corrupt+inefficient bureaucracy and that there’s a strong communist sentiment that significantly reduces the pool of competent and sane people who might engage in politics.
