Health Canada issued a recall Friday of Kleenex-brand Luxury Foam Hand Sanitizer after product testing detected bacteria that can pose a serious health threat to people with weakened immune systems. (via ts)
- The affected product comes in 1-litre and 1.2-litre containers, used in large-volume dispensers like those found in public washrooms and workplaces. Approximately 430 containers were sold at retail stores and wholesalers.
- Burkholderia cepacia, the group of bacteria found in the product tests, poses little risk to healthy Canadians. But for someone whose immune system has been weakened by other serious illnesses, especially cystic fibrosis, these bacteria can cause serious infections, including pneumonia and blood infection.
- Health Canada recommends those with compromised immune systems refrain from using this product or any hand sanitizer they cannot identify, and to speak with their doctor.
oh, the irony.. :)
