An Ontario clothing store worker has lost his job after posting a vile Facebook comment about B.C. teenager Amanda Todd. The man was fired from Mr. Big & Tall after using a derogatory term and writing the 15-year-old deserved to die in a post on the Amanda Todd memorial Facebook page. This guy may have been an asshole (though I haven’t even seen his comment), but is getting fired for something stupid he did, presumably, in his own free time a fair “punishment”?! Likewise, is 99 years in prison for a mother who “lost it” and beat her child to a coma fair and adequate? I don’t think so.
Most importantly, how are the bullies different than the anti-bullying mobs? It seems as if the anti-bullying mobs are bigger bullies than the bully.
The man who first bullied Amanda is the biggest offender in this story, but if I understand it correctly, she refused to press charges against any of her attackers. Maybe they should still be brought to justice, but all this bully [witch]hunt increasingly seems to be perpetrated by better connected / bigger bullies.
