‘We have no choice but to kill them all’: Beluga whales trapped by Nunavut ice providing feast for polar bears and people
One month after a Northern Quebec community pleaded with authorities to free a pod of orcas trapped by sea ice, a group of similarly trapped belugas has provided an impromptu feast for the people and polar bears of Sanikiluaq, Nunavut.
Hunters came across the belugas last week when they noticed as many as eight polar bears crowded around two holes in the ice no wider than one or two metres apiece.
“Some are still in the breathing hole, but there was about 20 dead belugas on the ice that were killed by the polar bears,” Sanikiluaq hunter Peter Kattuk told a CBC interviewer last Thursday.
Many of the belugas that remained, meanwhile, showed signs of injury from polar bear attack. Others risked suffocation and starvation by jostling for air around the holes. (Courtesy Nunatsiaq News)

IQALUIT, Nunavut — A head of cabbage for $20. Fifteen bucks for a small bag of apples.
A case of ginger ale: $82.
Fed up and frustrated by sky-high food prices and concerned over widespread hunger in their communities, thousands of Inuit have spent weeks posting pictures and price tags from their local grocery stores to a Facebook site called Feed My Family.
Holy hell.
Didn’t even know about this problem until about a month ago :/ I’ll definitely drop by the Facebook page.
Things I didn’t know that now embarrass me about my country.
we should also stop sending them body bags as protection against virus epidemics..
