My take: most men need to dominate their s.o., or at least have the impression that they do. When women complain that “smart men” date dumber chicks, what they’re really saying is why such “eligible bachelors” date women who are more beautiful / younger than me and why don’t they notice me?!
This is neither new nor unexpected, but the problem is more acute because there are now far more educated women than before and they don’t want a dumbo as a partner. They want a men at their level and there just aren’t any. Most will have to either compromise or learn to live alone.
